This past Saturday, Sifu Eric Winfree of Syracuse Martial Arts traveled to Rochester for the first in a series of monthly seminars on Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kun Do. It was an excellent time and here are some pictures from the event:
Sifu Eric will be back in Rochester each month to give a seminar. If you’ve ever been interested in learning more about Jeet Kun Do, please stop by. If you’d like more information about these seminars send us an e-mail.
The next few months are going to be really busy for us. Not only do we have a number of students testing for their white sash in a few weeks, but there are a number of great events that are going to be happening in and (sort of) around Rochester.
This weekend we’re traveling to Saratoga New York to participate in the Saratoga Martial Arts Festival. It’s one of the best martial arts festivals held in this part of the country and we’re honored to have Sifu Mark instructing there for the fourth year in a row. Check out SMAF’s site for more information.
Next weekend is the 10th Annual CMAWNY Challenge Tournament in Spencerport New York, hosted by Sa Bum Nim Christopher Gonnoud. More information on this can be found here.
In three weeks, March 8th, Renaissance Martial Arts will be host to the BaGua Extravaganza, being put on by those two BaGuaZhang renegades Sifu Ben Hill, AKA Maoshan, and Novell LaoShi, AKA The Black Taoist. It will be a daylong intensive workshop exploring real martial applications of Cheng & Yin style BaGuaZhang methods for combat.
Then on Saturday, March 22, Sifu Eric Winfree from Syracuse will be in town to kick off the first in a monthly series of seminars on Jeet Kun Do Concepts. These sessions will be specifically geared towards martial artists. For more information on the BaGua Extravaganza or the Jeet Kun Do seminars, please drop us a note.
So, with all this stuff, there’s nothing better to get us in the mood than Thai Martial Arts films. There’s a new one on the way from the director of the amazing Ong Bak. Without further adeu, we give you the Chocolate trailer and a new star whose ready to give Michelle Yeoh a run for her money:
Thanks to everyone who participated this weekend, both students and instructors! Hung Ga, European Long Sword, Goju Ryu Karate, Small Circle Ju Jitsu, Hapkido, Aikido, Ba Gua — we had it all and more! And most importantly, it was an atmosphere of sharing and family! These pictures say it all:
This weekend is the 2007 Renaissance Martial Arts festival — 13 different workshops, covered a wide range of martial arts. And more workshops are being added every day! We’re pleased to announce we have just added a European Longsword workshop on Saturday from 3-5pm! For the complete listing of events visit the festival’s page.
Our other exciting news: we’re moving again… back into our “old” space. After a few months on the third floor, we’ve had the opportunity to move back into our old digs (it’s a long story). The great news is that it’s given us the chance to give the old place a face lift. So those coming to the festival, be prepared for a couple changes as you can see from the pictures below (and also note that while we’re working hard, there is always time for sparring.
Duanesburg Tae Kwon Do is hosting Sifu Mark Cardona, Saturday September 15th for two workshops.
1pm – 2.20pm 5 Animal Kung Fu (Beginner/Intermediate)
Tigers, Crane, Leopard, Snake, Dragon… while they might seem fun and fl ashy, Kung Fu’s core animals are deadly serious. Sifu Cardona will introduce you to the stances, blocks, strikes and specifi c applications of the different animals.
2.30pm – 5pm Monkey and Drunken Kung Fu (Intermediate/Advanced)
Developed after the 5 Animals, Monkey and Drunken Kung Fu are unpredictable, deceptive systems. Learn how changes
in height, angle, balance, and timing help to fool opponents, letting you strike from any position
Each workshop is $25 or you can take both for $40
Duanesburg Tae Kwon Do is located at 185 Mott Rd, Duanesburg, NY 12056
